What is the difference between someone on parole and someone on probation?

Parole and probation are similar in the sense that they are both forms of supervised release. However, in the state of Florida I believe it was 1983 parole was abolished, so there are very few cases that are put into this situation these days because the only ones who would be placed on parole are people whose offenses are pre-1983, which that’s just been a long time. As far as probation and parole are concerned they both do have components of supervision. You will have a supervising officer. There are certain reporting requirements and other standards that have to be complied with, and if someone fails to comply with either they would face violations.
