When a friend or family member has been arrested, the number one thing that someone can really do for them is to speak with an attorney as quickly as possible so that that attorney can act very quickly to protect that individual’s rights. Additionally, if someone you know or love has been arrested, it is critical to not discuss the case over the phone if they happen to be in custody. All of those phone calls are recorded, and there is a lot of information that can be used against them later in the case that may be discussed in the course of that. So, number one, hire an attorney as quickly as possible so that that attorney can come in and take steps to protect them; number two, don’t discuss any specifics of the case in your talks with them over the phone.
