What symptoms and behavior is the officer looking for during the initial detention at the scene of a DUI?

This outta be easy for most of us. We just have to look at our best friend when he’s intoxicated and we’re sober, and we laugh at him because he has a staggering gait. He has slurred speech, he can’t speak well, and most critically, he has the smell of alcoholic beverage on his breath. That’s what police officers look for. So the best thing to do is not drink and drive, but if you do drink and drive, it’s my opinion that you should never take a field sobriety test. Many of us, because of our age and other infirmities, have difficulty performing these tests and it is simply a test to be used against you. So if it’s offered, I would decline.
