What is a federal crime?

A federal crime is any sort of crime that invokes federal jurisdiction. That could be something that crosses state lines, it could be a very specific area of the law that only the federal law addresses, or it could be something where someone else involved in the offense is somewhere outside of the common jurisdiction, outside of either the state of Florida, outside of the United States all together. When a case is in federal court, it is dealt with in a different way than many of the cases that are in state court. Federal laws are much different, federal penalties are much different, and they’re just fought in different arenas, different forms.
